This seems to cause no problems with my test builds on Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04 so applied it to GIT repository as [da8f1e]. Will also check with 10.04 if I can.
Thanks Craig fgor the feedback. I think that only Michael Meskes can close bugs/patch tickets, so hopefully he will look over these later and close those he thinks are done.

That's good to hear. However the patch is mis-attributed--credit should not go to me but to the original patch author from the Yocto project. That I think is Richard Purdie.

I've tested building watchdog daemon with Yocto, with this patch included. I can confirm that it works as intended, so Yocto builds now succeed.
