I have a similar experience with Ubuntu 13.04.
I have Python 2.7.4 installed.
Upon launch the terminal shows:
"Waiting for server
Downloading…"
The GUI appears, but seems to be hung ... it won't repaint itself
after being minimized, won't respond to the close button,
and must be force killed.

Sorry for the very late reply. Have you tried changing the server in preferences to Icecast?
