Have a LNE100TX that doesn't want to stay up. Worked
fine until I recently upgrade from 2.2.x to a 2.4.7-10
kernel. Installed the 1.1.8 tulip driver. Sometimes
it'll last for 300 pings, sometimes less than 10.
ifdown/ifup will fix it temporarily, but then it dies
again. Running on i386.

The same thing happens on my i686 with the LNE100TX on PCI.
I thought I just had a bad card or a bad configuration,
    until I saw this post.

I notice that the problem occurs especially when I try to
transfer large files (about 100MB or more) between machines,
using both ftp and samba. But the problem is not isolated
to those applications, as it has gone down even when I'm
just web browsing or popping short emails.

Also, ifconfig still reports that the interface is up even
    when it stops responding.

The problem seems to have started after I upgraded to the
2.4.17 kernel that I downloaded from kernel.org. Prior to
that, I'd been using the standard Redhat 7.0 2.2.16 and
2.2.19 kernels, and the card was working just fine then.
Upgrading the kernel to 2.4.18 didn't fix it either.

I don't know if Etherape or tcpdump or libpcap might instead
be interfering with the driver or the TCP/IP stack, since I
installed Etherape and tcpdump about the same time as I
    upgraded to the 2.4 kernel.

My current tulip driver is the 0.9.15-pre9 version, dated
    Nov 6, 2001. It's running as a module on Redhat 7.0 with
    the 2.4.18 kernel.

    Thanks in advance!
