The next release of TinRoof will allow you to encrypt all IMs sent to other TinRoof users who you have added a certificate for.
Also, file transfers will be upgraded to full encryption (currently the direct connections used for file transfers are authenticated but not encrypted).
The cipher used will probably be 128 bit AES, with possible upgrade to a larger key size for file transfers.

Chat windows now support html tags and some other added features.
File transfers are now listed in a single window, rather than in separate dialog windows.
The 'Send File' feature is now implemented.
Currently working on SSL-encryption of all file transfers (thanks for this suggestion).

Users behind firewalls are now be able to send push requests to download files.
The underlying protocol has changed somewhat, so if you downloaded the original tinroof.jar, you should update now.

At last, up and running! All you need is an AOL IM screen name. You can use TinRoof as just another AIM client "out of the box," but it offers you a lot more if you have the patience to set it up. After you swap digital "certificates" with other TinRoof users, you will be able to share files with them. But this is better than AIM's DirectIM feature. You can share multiple directories, and you can search for files shared by all of your TinRoof buddies. This will all be explained in more detail once the web page is up.

Well, pre-alpha maybe. The chatting and file transfer features are fully functional, and you are able to view your buddies' buddy lists (if they haven't blocked your access :), but connecting to these peers is not yet possible. Enjoy!

Tin Roof will be a full featured, secure chat and file sharing application intended for use on the various flavors of Linux. A basic set of features will include the ability to allow or block users from chatting with you or viewing/downloading your shared files, as well as sharing buddy lists etc. All communications will be done using a protocol similar to SSL. More details will be released in the future.
