In TeXstudio 2.3, sometimes the 2nd placeholder is highlighted instead of the 1st when a \frac is inserted. To reproduce, do the following:
1) insert a \frac using either a shortcut or the command completion, it will be inserted as \frac{num}{den}, where "num" and "den" are both placeholders with "num" highlighted, as it should be
2) type the numerator, i.e. replace the placeholder "num", then use the shortcut "Next placeholder or one word right" to select the place holder "den", type the denominator, use the shortcut "Next placeholder or one word right" again to put the cursor after the last }
3) insert another \frac using either a shortcut or the command completion, now it will be inserted as \frac{den}{den} where "den" are both placeholders, but the 2nd placeholder will be highlighted instead of the 1st

That's the "temporary clipboard"
Write any word, select it, write another word, insert any code snippet
and the first placeholder is replaced by the first written word.

Is that explanation sufficient and we can close it; or do you want to have it changed and we move it to feature request as option to disable that behaviour?
Moved to feature requests:
- The temporary clipboard should be documented somewhere (I didn't know it existed).
- Add option to disable it (and I would even disable it by default, because as in the above case, it looks like a bug, if you don't know it).
