In the TexStudio window the left and right arrow keys are not active.
In preferences --> keyboard shortcuts, the up/and down aroow keys can be defined as suchand work properly. When attempting to the the same for left/right (single character) the normal preset value is not accepted ("shortcut invalid"), only "none" or pointless combinations like Alt-8 etc. which actually work.
This applies to all possible left/right shortcuts (well, I tested 3 ...)

Using openSuse 13.2 and KDE.Locale = DE, UTF-8.

First noted after installing a new system from scratch from the openSuse Repo 13.2. (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/13.2/standard/x86_64/texstudio-2.8.0-2.1.4.x86_64.rpm).

The problem persited after compiling and installing 2.9.0.from source. This is not a keyboard issue as the keys operate in all other software.

you can try to type in "links" & "rechts" for the cursor-movement.
Apart from that I'd advise to delete ~/.config/texstudio.ini

Note: This file contains all your TXS settings. Deleting it restores everything to default settings. You might want to backup before deleting, just in case that you want undo reverting to default.

I have just encountered basically the same problem with TeXstudio 2.9.2 under Manjaro Linux (x64). (The interface language is set to Hungarian, spell check to en_GB.) The only difference is that the up and down arrow keys did not work either. (They would scroll the window instead.)

It appeared right after inserting a bib key in "\citeyear{}" with the help of autocomplete and hitting enter to remove the placeholder,

Deleting the "Editor%20Key%20Mapping%20New" lines in texstudio.ini solved the issue though.
