No

Using TrayIcon 0.14 on Ubuntu 8.10, I get no response to "View device Status" nor "Preferences".
In a Terminal, I see :
** (synce-trayicon:19994): CRITICAL **: run_prefs_dialog: failed to load interface file: /usr/share/synce/synce_trayicon_properties.glade: required gtk+ version 2.16, current version is 2.14
Installed libgtk2.0-0 is version 2.14.4-0ubuntu1
In consequence, I suppose the following dependency of
synce-trayicon_0.14-0ubuntu0~ppa1~intrepid1_i386.deb
should be changed : libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.14.1)
I fell back to 0.13 for just TrayIcon and I hope this is correct.

That's curious, there shouldn't be anything in there that is dependent on a higher version. And actually I can see at the top of the glade file it specifies 2.16, and I've just found an option for this in the glade editor. This may be an easy fix with any luck.

Yep. Actually, either the dependency is wrong or it's right and the code makes a bad test.
You seem to incriminate the latter, which is good news because it means that 0.14 *can* run on Intrepid.
I'm willing to test an updated trayicon 0.14 deb. Just warn me.

A reason why I would appreciate an updated trayicon 0.14 deb is this:
With trayicon 0.13, I was unable to setup a partnership.
    (I used synce-kpm instead)
It may be because the rest is at level 0.14.
But if trayicon 0.14 fails too, I'd have to file another bug.
    Thanks.

synce-trayicon_0.14-0ubuntu0~ppa1~intrepid2_i386.deb now runs nicely on Ubuntu 8.10.
Thanks for fixing this in no time.

    The other issue isn't fixed.
I narrowed it down to "not being able to sync when e-mail syncing is configured".
The Qtek 8500's WM aborts the sync, saying that it wasn't able to communicate.
Thing is I don't use e-mail, it's not configured for any provider.
But the folders are there and syncing is a matter of just the folders, isn't it?
Is it worth reporting this problem?

I was hoping that SMS (text messages) would be assimilated to e-mail and managed within.
But it seems too simple an idea to be true.

I've got another issue when testing.
Removing and then reconfiguring a partnership causes the following.
The two sides consider their identical databases as different.
All items are sent to the other side as new, doubling the data.
Do that 4 times to help OpenSync and you've got 16 identical phonebook entries for 1.
Not really a joy to cleanup 100 entries.
More that 15 minutes for the phone to do a sync.
Either doubling the database shouldn't happen.
Or the user should be warned in big letters.
That, typically, he must ensure that one database be empty.
Or that the set of identical entries is small.
    Again, should I report this?

    Thanks again

I don't understand what you mean with the first issue, can you bring it to the synce-users mailing list ? Bugs are an awkward way of discussing these things.

With the second issue, if you delete the partnership, you _must_ also delete the opensync group as well.

    Thanks again.

1st issue : OK for the mailing list when I'll have time, see you there, maybe.

2nd issue : deleting group as you say should be enforced as no one I could read knew anything about it and as the effect is catastrophic.

1st issue - cool, I'll wait to hear

2nd issue - there is a plan :) it's just a bit tricky to do
