My name is Namra Maheshwari . I am a student of computer science and technology at IIIT Hyderabad, India. Link for screenshot of a game i recently developed using objects: http://web.iiit.ac.in/~namra.maheshwari/Screenshot.png.<http://web.iiit.ac.in/~namra.maheshwari/Screenshot.png> I am interested in a project named as:Irregular Solar System bodies - We can use (.OBJ) formats to make asteroids of irregular shapes - Why OBJECT format ? - Easy to load by writing a simple parser. - We can specify normals at each and every point. - Opengl now has some built in libraries to help us loading object files. - when application starts these object files will get partially loaded . - Assuming that at any point of time a user can see at most two asteroids clearly , we need to load only two object files while other asteroids can be spherical at that time (the idea is to load object files which are inside viewing grid of the user.) - This option can also be turned off if , application looses its quality. Sorry for replying after so many days ( looks like whole GSOC thing has gone cold on the mailing list), I was struggling with code , trying to learn some QtOpengl. I am having some doubts: - Every time i make some change to some source file, it compiles all the files present in the source directory and i have to wait atleast 5 to 10 mins just see a slight which i have made . Is there any easy way to do it or am I doing something wrong. - I have Stellarium 0.11.1 installed in my computer (build from the source). When I do 'Ctrl+F' , try to write something in search box , it shows suggestions but when I try to click any suggestion , it does not do anything Is this a regular behavior or am I missing something? If not , wouldn't this be good idea to make suggestions clickable.? I don't know what exactly you want to do with the multi-threading, but just drawing two objects in two threads simultaneously to the same context won't improve performance; I'm pretty sure it won't work at all. I _believe_ you can do other things in a separate thread and a separate context (like loading resources to share with the main context), but I don't know that this would help much in Stellarium's case. If you could get all of the Open GL stuff in one rendering thread, separate from the CPU-bound stuff, that alone would provide a significant boost. I'm pretty sure Stellarium does everything, save maybe texture loading, in one thread. @Brady: I think I wrote something wrong in the original idea, my idea was to load object files in one separate thread (Because they are very big , in a way they consume much I/O than regular process) , I tried this on a simple example on my computer and fps improved by 11 frames in multi threaded case , so I thought this could be a good idea for fast loading of .OBJ files in stellarium. That's the life of writing in a C-based language. Compilation takes a bit of time. If you are on a Mac, use LLVM, as it speeds things up a great deal. Qt has a couple of different ways to handle concurrency. If you think that there are specific places that would benefit from this, please enumerate them. Hi everyone - I'm a prospective GSoC student and am writing a proposal to solve Stellarium's deep sky object issues. I hope this doesn't interfere with any work you have done Namra... When expanding the DSO catalogue, is there a preferred source for images? I have made the prototype of new DSO catalog 1. It contains RNGC - revised new general catalog numbers 2.
