I'm fishing for some ideas. I'm running SquirrelMail 1.2.7 on a RH 7.3 box. I have it talking to an Exchange 5.5 server. Everything has been working slick until last night. I had a problem with my IMC on the exchange server. I ended up having to reboot the server to the service running again. Everything appears to be running correctly. But when I try to login via SM I get "ERROR Unknown user or Password incorrect". Anyone have any ideas other than throwing out the exchange server? Paul Kessler |

Greetings all. I'm relatively new to using Squirrelmail and have implemented it in a small environment for testing purposes. Most of my test users can log in fine and the product works like a champ, except for 2 users. These users both get the same error message when they log in. The message they receive is the following: ERROR: Bad or malformed request. Query: FETCH (FLAGS UID RFC822.SIZE BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (Date To Cc From Subject X-Priority Content-Type)]) Server responded: Bogus sequence in UID FETCH Has anyone else seen this type of error and know what is causing it? Hello, All of a sudden today, I was unable to login to my email account with squirrelmail. It gave me an error message saying "unknown user or password". I am also the administrator of the website. The password has never been changed and I also went in as the system admin the change the password and it still gave me the same error message with the new password. The email was working perfectly fine yesterday and absolutely no changes have been made in the last 24 hours to warrant this issue. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! -- Travis |

Your job is to figure out what did. Your best starting point is your mail server log files. First off Paul, as mentioned earlier, email was working perfectly fine yesterday. There were no changes made by anyone (unless someone magically hacked into my email) in the past 24 hours I have been unable to login to my email all day today and other email accounts have been unaccessable today as well, giving the same "uknown user or password" error message. Using squirrelmail has been nothing but an absolute nightmare. One day things will work, the next day it won't with access being an issue, getting error messages when trying to send messages, running extremely slow, and so on. The system is a joke and anytime I look for assistance, it's near impossible to find and no one cares. With a lot of luck, maybe squirrelmail will "miraculously" work all of a sudden again as in the past and I can access my email. Until then, I'll be looking for new website hosters who use a professional email service and not some mickey mouse program that works 50% of the time. In essence it simply *presents* your mail to you (and does it very well). Things like logging in etc are largely controlled by the IMAP back-end. So you are, in all probability, shouting at the wrong people. You mention in a later post that Squirrelmail was integrated into your webhosting. The same people who set up that hosted system probably set up the IMAP back-end and it is almost certainly them to whom you should direct your questions. Squirrelmail is FREE Open Source software. It is a very sophisticated product, but it is developed entirely by people who give up their spare time to develop, maintain and improve it. If you ask in the right way, it is my experience that those same people can be very helpful in getting your system working in the way that you want it. I run my own IMAP server (Dovecot) and have Squirrelmail serving up the emails from that quite happily. It is only a small system for myself and my family, but it works very well indeed. I have complete control over it because I host it myself. It just suddenly disallowed access. No changes have been made at all on my end, I don't see why this would be my fault. IMAP server has some authentication daemon and it is stopped/crashed or can't serve all incoming requests. 2. You have problem with PHP session data storage. 3. Something changed on IMAP backend side. If you don't control your webmail setup, contact your web hosting company support. Please note that you should not blame application for system related issues. "50% of the time" and "as in the past" sounds like an ongoing problem, while "It just suddenly disallowed access" makes it sound like a new problem. If you pay someone for the service, go get their support. That's why you pay them, isn't it? As for us providing a solution, well, your service provider is the only one that knows how it's set up. Let me count the ways... 1) IMAP server authentication daemon died/stopped/was stopped 2) Out of disk space on your hosted machine 3) Out of other resources on your hosted machine 4) Web server issue (PHP sessions disabled/failing) 5) Failure to pay your bill (are your accounts disabled?) 6) IMAP server misconfigured Five of the six reasons I have listed above (and these are just a partial list) would likely be due to problems at your service provider. If they don't already know they have a problem, you *should* find another provider, as they're incompetent. I'll spell it out very clearly for you: IF YOU PAY SOMEONE TO HOST YOUR STUFF, AND YOUR STUFF DOESN'T WORK, YOU SHOULD TALK TO THE PEOPLE WHO HOST YOUR STUFF. Hint: The Squirrelmail team doesn't host your stuff.
