The search facility doesn't work in hmailserver either
returning no results or every message.

Found that is works fine if I set $imap_server_type =
'macosx';

Looking at the code I guess it is that hmailserver uses
the older search syntax.

Just to confirm I had exactly the same problem, and found
that gabriel's solution resolved it for myself as well (thanks).

Then I guess you should also file a bug against hMailserver
aswell. I will add hmailserver as an extra server_type for
clarity.

Fixed, thanks for reporting. Please report this bug to
hmailserver so it can be fixed the right way.
