It'd be nice to have a umask/fmask/dmask configuration while running mksquashfs so that the resulting filesystem doesn't necessarily have the permissions as the original files. Particularly, the reason I'm thinking of this, is the case of making a squashfs from a read-only source such as a CD-ROM. for CDs, all files might unnecessarily contain the execute bit, usually the directories and files have to write permissions (which makes it difficult to unsquashfs as non-root users who can't write to such directories).

Of course I'm only asking about an additional option for mksquashfs, all the current retaining of modes should be the default :)

Yes, this'll be a very useful feature.

I use squashfs as a CD/DVD FS, i.e. burning a squashfs image directly onto a CD/DVD. Naturally I don't want any permission to be stored.
