1- What about a Triangle tool ?

2- What about function keys related to those tools ?
F1 = select tool
F2 = nodes tool
F3 = zoom
F4 = square
F5 = cercle
F6 = curve tool
F7 = text tool
F8 = extract color
F9 = ? nothing for the moment

Why not :

F1 = mouse arrow
F2 = nodes arrow
F3 = square
F4 = triangle (add the triangle tool)
F5 = cercle
F6 = curve tool
F7 = text tool
F8 = zoom (should change the place of zoom)
F9 = extract color

Better yet, a polygon tool, to create triangles, squares,
pentagons, hexagons, and so forth. You could set the number
of sides on it in a similar way to setting the number of
points on the star tool.

For now, though, you can make a triangle by making a
3-pointed star, converting it to a path, and deleting the
inner nodes.

The polygon mode of the star tool is implemented for
Inkscape 0.38.
