I wondered whether you would consider adding support for the ATA
security commands to smartctl?
Currently, these are available for disks directly connected to PATA or
SATA controllers via the "hdparm" utility. However, I'd like to be able
to use them through a jmicronusb controller. I think that smartctl
already has support for ATA passthrough on the jmicronusb controller
because commands such as this works:
"# smartctl /dev/sdb -l xerror -d usbjmicron,x
smartctl 5.39 2009-11-30 r2990 [i386-redhat-linux-gnu] (local build)

Would this be something you might be interested in implementing and/or
is it something that I might easily be able to put together?
With best wishes,
