Hi - I recently got a Dell laptop for my work. It has a Samsung HS122JC 1.8'' harddisk. I noticed that directly after the first linux boot the number of counts for all errors that show damaged blocks/zones (attributes 196 to 200) went up. After a few days I got warnings from the system, but no problems with accessing data. I contacted Dell and they exchanged the disk. Now again the same: The error counts go up immediately and continously. So I start to suspect that smartctl (or the disk for that matter) does not give the correct info. If this is a new issue (i.e.if I did not overlook the obvious solution), I am prepared to run more tests to help to solve this. I lack the hardware understanding but I have some understanding of linux and compiling and installing things manually.
