The attached files are for 3 drives from Maxtor's MaxLine III series of hard drives. The 7L300R0 is a PATA drive. The 7L300S0 is a SATA 1.5 Gb/s drive ("-d ata" option used since SATA). The 7V300F0 is a SATA 3.0 Gb/s drive ("-d ata" option used since SATA). The version of smartmontools I'm using is 5.33+5.34cvs2005080 from Debian unstable. Thanks for the great software! |

Hi, I run 4 of these disks behind SIL SATA controllers. After upgrading to kernel 2.6.15 and reading http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=9056287&forum_id=12495 I was able to use "smartctl -a -d ata /dev/sdb" (note the device type in the command is *ATA*, not SATA) to obtain the attached data. Lifetime is confusing, however. Three disks report a lifetime of some 200 units - which would make sense if the unit were days. The fourth disk reports 4665 units of lifetime - which would mean lifetime has been measured in hours. Strange ... Feel free to contact me if there are further questions. So long, Rainer |
