Dear all, The Scilab Image Processing Toolbox 0.12.1 has been released. It has been updated to support Ubuntu 16.10. As such, it has been tested with the default Scilab 5.5.2 and Imagemagick 6.8.9-9 that are packaged for this Linux distribution. These changes benefit other Unix flavors as well. New instructions, as well as an automation script to install dependencies, are available on the website. If you have never installed anything from source before, you can try running this command on Terminal: wget -O- https://sourceforge.net/p/siptoolbox/siptoolbox/ci/master/tree/install-sip?format=raw | sh Your password will be asked a few times for sudo when installing dependencies. We are in dire need of volunteers to maintain binary packages for SIP. It is not a feasible task for one person to do it on a regular basis. Image processing is arguably the number one demand for Scilab extensions, as can be seen in Atoms statistics. We need to invest on this. For now, SIP can only be reliably maintained and installed from source downloaded through Git. Hi, all, SIP recently has passed beyond the 1 milion price tag according to a fun estimate by OHLOH. SIP has been very actively developed in the past months, as I have comitted to not use Matlab in my research. The current version of SIP is 0.8.0 and is released in Git. We are currently making releases by tagging in Git, since this reduces the bureaucracy of packaging. Once in a while I will release packaged source code, but most of the time the Git master branch will be stable for use and be actively supported. Hi, The SIP repositories were converted to Git. We will no longer support CVS. Please read the instructions on how to download and contribute using Git here: http://siptoolbox.sourceforge.net/devel/ We have already included a number of changes in the Git version, mainly to get SIP to compile in Ubuntu 11.04 and other environments. The Git version of SIP is where you can get the latest working SIP code. I would also like to welcome our new developers: hick209, wakkuu, and penalv. Hope you can enjoy their upcoming contributions. The SIP development team is happy to announce the new version 0.3.0 of SIP, the Scilab Image Processing toolbox. SIP reads/writes images in formats like JPEG, PNG, and BMP. It does filtering, edge detection, morphology, and shape analysis. No windows binaries are available yet (***volunteers are needed***) What's New ========== There are major enhancements in this release, as summarized bellow: o NEW bwlabel function to label connected components in a binary image. o NEW watershed function, for image segmentation. It accepts markers. There is a nice example in the help page, showing how to separate overlying objects in a binary image. o NEW bwdist function with very fast euclidean distance transform algorithms: Olivier Cuisenaire's algorithm (CVIU 1999) and Calvin Maurer's algorithm (PAMI 2003). Probably the fastest exact methods anywhere. There is also a nice example in the help page for "bwdist". o NEW imroi function to define ROI's (Regions of Interest) using the mouse. For instance, imwrite and imshow doesn't require normalization to obscure values such as 255 or 65535. o NEW GUI demo, mainly for interferometry images o NEW mogrify demo o mogrify now supports color images, and has a robust error treatment. All operations such as rotation, zoom, and color segmentation are now working for these images. There is a nice example in the help page. o INCOMPATIBLE: mogrify's drawing commands and many other functionalities are now working. An INCOMPATIBLE improvement has been made so more complex operations are now possible. For example, to rotate an image: BEFORE: mogrify(image, '-rotate 60'); // WRONG NOW : mogrify(image, ['-rotate', '60']); // CORRECT The advantage is that you can now do this: mogrify(image, ['+antialias'; '-draw'; 'ellipse 50,50 30,30 0,360']); For one argument without parameter, nothing has changed: mogrify(image, '-equalize'); // histogram equalization o INCOMPATIBLE: drawline function has been changed & fixed. It was previously broken. Thx to Marconi for reporting. o INCOMPATIBLE: improfile changed o INCOMPATIBLE: fftshift was renamed to sip_fftshift, because Scilab CVS now provides an fftshift. o NEW mkfftfilter function to provide frequency-domain filter kernels. o NEW ind2rgb function to convert indexed images to direct RGB hypermatrix storage. o NEW gray_imread funciton, to read every image as grayscale o NEW perim function, to compute the perimeter of a shape o NEW imvariance - image local variance o NEW pifilter - denoises an image without affecting abrupt variations. o NEW imphase - phase calculation (useful for interferometry) o NEW unwrapp - phase unwrapping by path following, used in interferometry/photonics o NEW poledetection function to detect residues in wrapped phased images. o NEW SIP manual by Jocelyn Druel: http://genie-optique.chez.tiscali.fr/SIP o FIXED memleaks in various C functions (thx. to Linder). Hi, sip-0.1.1-win5 has just been released. It is the previous SIP version, but it now works under Windows with both Scilab 2.6 and 2.7. It still needs ImageMagick 5.4.3 to be installed. This version doesn't have any of the new features in SIP 0.2.0, but at least it has the image I/O routines, which are the most essential. Hi, as the SIP homepage have been down for a while, please use the following url to download SIP 0.2.0 files: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=68055&release_id=146533 BTW, from that link you may download sip-0.2.0-win-sci2.6-NOTWORKING.zip which is the binary package I built for Windows using MinGW (www.mingw.org). The Cybernetic Vision Research Group and its collaborators announces the new version 0.2.0 of SIP, the Scilab Image Processing toolbox= =2E Binaries for Linux are available for use with both Scilab 2.6 and 2.7. They are self-contained, meaning that there is no need to download ImageMag= ick. The user just needs to execute the loader.sce script. ImageMagick is only needed if the user installs SIP from sourcecode. SIP 0.2.0 should be easily portable to most Unix-like systems, as it now us= es autoconf, automake and libtool for the build process. *** NOTE: No windows binary is available yet (volunteers are needed!) What's New =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D There are major enhacements in this release, as summarized bellow: o New mogrify command (resizing, rotating, filtering, etc) o New state-of-the-art O(n) skeletonization algorithm based on the euclidean metric, implemented in C and accessible through the scilab function "skel". It has a multiscale pruning parameter. o Fast euclidean distance transform and discrete Voronoi diagram calculated by the same algorithm. o New xgetpixel command to get pixel coordinates from mouse position o New edilate command to do exact euclidean dilation o New percol command to check for image percolation o New drawline command to draw a line in an image o New perim function (perimeter measure of a shape) o minmax - new min/max noise removal from images (by curvature/levelsets= ) o New Hough transform (early working implementation) o Early fractal dimension implementation o Curvature/ffteriv/gsm/gsm2d rewrite o Curvature2d - estimates the curvature of a surface / image o Improfile - plot data profiles along line segments through an image o Imshow is now faster for truecolor images. o Adaptive thresholding though the mogrify parameter "-lat". This requires ImageMagick 5.5.2 or later. =09o New edge-detection by FFT gradient estimation; this =09 is available in the =E9dge' routine, by giving an 'fftderiv' value for the method argument. o New masks for mkfilter - laplacian masks, low-pass masks, sharp masks, mean, and circular. o New unwrapl function - unwraps phased images linearly o Imshow has new strf parameter o Imshow is now faster for truecolor images. o No more need to normalize truecolor images to 0-65535 range for imshow. This means you can now call imshow(im), and _not_ imshow(im*65535), if 0 <=3D im(i,j,k) <=3D 255 o No more need to fix Scilab makefile bugs to compile SIP. The build process is now based on autoconf, which means the user types "configure; make; make install" to compile SIP (only POSIX-like environments are supported). o A "hello_sip" function added as a simple example, for new developers, of how to add a new C-language routine to SIP. o The general purpose C routines were moved to AnImaL (An Imaging Library), which is independent of Scilab. o Many bugfixes SIP is primarily developed by Ricardo Fabbri <rf...@if...>. I must be insane... I have a meeting today and I haven't prepared a thing. It's just so cool to play with Scilab and SIP I can't stop :-) Even more when a new, easy-to-install SIP binary for Linux is available for us to download! And it is totally self-contained, no need to install ImageMagick or AnImaL. Just an "exec loader.sce;". Of course, this binary package is a bit larger (3 MB), but it's convenient for the end-user. It would be nice if you test it so we can soon release a new stable version, SIP 0.2.0. A binary for windows will be released as soon as I get the DLL build process to work under MinGW (www.mingw.org). PLEASE CONTINUE :-) I also made some improvements to your code. profil - it's now called "improfile" because this name is less likely to crash with user symbols, and it is more matlab-like. I also added pretty colors to the lines that are shown over the image, check it out! minmax - the code remains basically the same. I just separated the function "curvature2d" into a new SIP function. MakeMask was put it into mkfilter (see the help). imshow - I included Bruno Pincon's code and suggestions! ChangeLog: 20030307 + minmax - new min/max noise removal from images (curvature/levelset) + curvature2d - estimates the curvature of a surface / image + improfile - plot data profiles along line segments through an image + imshow is now faster for truecolor images. + No more need to normalize truecolor images to 0-65535 range for imshow. Dear SIP co-developers, It is with much joy that I present you with a new SIP development release!! This release exhibits a herculean rewrite of the build process! It is now totally based on GNU autotools. That means you compile it like: ./configure make make install And it automatically looks for installed libraries! Also, it installs in both Scilab 2.6 and 2.7. There's no more need to tweak "Makeso.incl". If any errors occurs, they are well diagnosed by configure. In addition, SIP should now be easily ported to many systems. Another change is the separation of the core C routines into an independent C library, called AnImaL (An Imaging Library). This library is required if you are to build SIP from source. Now SIP is just the interfaces to Scilab for the AnImaL library, together with Scilab scripts. There is no "src/cybervis" directory anymore. Please download SIP-dev from siptoolbox.sourceforge.net/devel, read the INSTALL.txt file that comes with SIP and try to install it in your Linux/Unix/MacOSX/Freebsd/etc, and send any bugs and comments to this list. In the next few days I plan to launch a new stable release with binaries for both Linux and Windows, so any help will be more than welcome now. Please note that compilation from source is now much more robust, but it is not so easy for the average user. The binaries will be much easier to install, and will not require any external software (at the cost of some extra megabytes). I will try to release them today. I haven't yet included the contributions from Leandro and Jocelyn.
