(So, I'm kinda new at this, and I'm still sort of feeling my way around Semantic Mediawiki, so apologies for the wordiness and any ambiguity...)
I am trying to roll out SMW at my organization; we are trying to use it as a high-level collaborative specifications management site, and so far, it's proven to be a very impressive, powerful framework.
The core of our data model consists of Business Objectives that are realized by one or more Features that, in turn, are described by one or more Requirements, which are assigned a single Release package.
We have a need for a few broad table views for Releases with customized cell content formatting, so I've been using format=template and constructing wikitable rows with queries nested within them to get additional details for semantically-related items:
* First, I query for all Business Objectives that have Features that have Requirements that are scheduled for a given Release. I format the results in a template.
* In that template, I take the results of that query, print the Business Objectives' properties and query for Features that have Requirements for that same release and format the results in the template.
* In that template, I take the results of that query, print the Features' properties, and query for Requirements for the release.
Here's the problem - when I don't use a formatting template for this last step, the final query results display fine whether its a table, ul, debug, etc.. However, when I set template=something on the final query, nothing at all is displayed (no default text, no nothing).
I am not reaching any MW limits as far as transclusion size/template depth as far as I can tell (looking at the NewPP limit report - but again, I'm new to MW and SMW, so maybe I'm wrong here), and my SMW query depth limits are set high enough, I think. In fact, I can call a template from that last query's template and it is successfully transcluded (I just can't set format=template in any query I do from there onwards). Is there some sort of nested query template limit that other folks are aware of? Is there a better way to generate a page like this?
I am happy to set up something in the sandbox if someone would like to take a look, but I wanted to first see if this was an issue anyone recognized, or perhaps something I could handle differently.
Using MW 1.13.2, PHP 5.1.6, MySQL 5.0.45, Replace Text 0.3, Semantic Forms 1.3.5, Cite, ParserFunctions 1.1.1, SMW 1.3, FWIW.
Thanks in advance for your help!
