I am also having the Same problem with Windows 8.1 on Surface Pro. Some files are showing the ai thumbnails, while Most of others didnt show correctly. The Same thing happens on the pdf extension. So it must be the ghostscript. Any fixes?

I have resolved the problem. Changing the default PDF reader from the built-in reader on the Windows 8 to the Acrobat X seems resolve it permanently.

Hello, i noticed, that only for AI files in format Illustrator CC are not being displayed. Any earlier formats there are no problem with thumbnails.
