I've upgraded to Firefox 0.9.1, and feedsubscriber.xpi does not seem to work. It worked for me when I had Firefox 0.8 installed. Will there be a version of feedsubscriber.xpi for Firefox 0.9.x? http://rssbandit.sourceforge.net/builds/feedsubscriber.xpi Paul |

I must say first off that RSSBandit is a great .NET app. I was wondering if anyone has managed to get the latest rev (or any) to work on XP sp2 rc2? I'm having some trouble. It seems to think the network connection is down. No errors, just a red X on the status icon. No feeds will download at all. Reboots and reenabling the network connection don't work. This was a brand new XP install with sp2 rc2. The firewall is off (it originally asked to allow the app) and nothing else is wrong with the system. I had to install (and reboot) for .Net Framwork 1.1, but that was it. Let me know. I figure I can test for you (on sp2 rc2), if no one else is. _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! |

Back from vacation.=20 Just want to add another point and request for discussion: ?.) Archiving posts Some of the users like to keep the whole downloaded posts for a long time (maybe unlimited), and loading all of them each time the app starts slow down the whole app and waste memory. So we should discuss a model to implement how to archive older posts. It should be an configurable option aside to just removing the oldest posts silently as it does in the current versions. It should not be too difficult to support a second or more feedlist.xml files for archiving purpose or to manage more than our single feedlist.xml that would allow something like "master" categories (multiple trees), but that is another feature/discussion point. Think, point (5) should be a MUST HAVE. Another missing point (MUST HAVE):=20 ?.) Impl. the many suggested UI improvements, like better support for feed deletion, feed properties, views configuration per feed, feed icons, full configurable shortcuts, etc. I will provide a separate list for all the little things and post it here later this or next day. A way to have the list of posts display only unread posts (see FeedDemon). Although filtering by the values of any column (author, category, date) would be very useful.<br> <br> 2.) Showing the author in a column (as you mentioned) is an essential thing to be added since aggregated feeds are so common now. I would love to see the columns be configurable similar to Outlook. Is there any good open source WinForms grids out there, maybe something Janus GridEX?<br> <br> 3.) Grouping by a particular column would also be a nice feature, again see FeedDemon or Outlook's grid.<br> <br> 4.) I have intermittent errors using the FTP synchronization. Some better troubleshooting information or enhanced error information would be nice.<br> <br> 5.) Ability to flag specific authors in an aggregated feed would be cool. Similarly, a way to filter specific authors out of an aggregated feed. <br> <br> 6.) A place to put notes about an author or a feed would be cool. I have many feeds that I go back to after a long time and I can't remember exactly who the person is. Usually I figure out who they are or information about why I'm interested in their feed from a particular post from a long time ago. So a place to write notes about an author or why I subscribed would be cool.<br> <br> 7.) It might be nice to have RSSBandit expose a nice extensibility model (maybe something like outlook's / MAPI) so that anyone could write plugins such as posting plugins, or NNTP support, without having to learn to modify the source directly. I know other products get some cool plugins just because they have an easy to use and documented extensibility model. If RSSBandit had one too, we might see more people add nice little features for it here and there. <br> <br> -- Scott<br> <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://blogs.pingpoet.com/overflow">http://blogs.pingpoet.com/overflow</a><br> <br> Dare Obasanjo wrote:<br> <blockquote cite="mid830178CE7378FC40BC6F1DDADCFDD1D102766E6A@RED-MSG-31.redmond.corp.microsoft.com" type="cite"> <pre wrap="">Below is my top 10 list of features for the next version of RSS Bandit. Hi Dare! What I'd really love to see is configurable hotkey support. It often bugs me to cycle through message with 'space' only. On pages with large content I have to press space like 10-15 times until it advances to the next item. Instead I'd like to have a (configurable) hotkey to immediately go to the next/previous article/group. At least with RSS Bandit users I talked to, they seem to be missing such a feature as well to improve the GUI. Regards, Garvin. |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hello all, I packaged another .zip archive for the build 1.2.0.108 (beta) to enable testing of the new added languages and further fixed bugs: http://rssbandit.sourceforge.net/builds/Bandit.2004.04.20.bin.zip Read more about on http://www.rssbandit.org/ow.asp?YetImplementedFeatures#h2. Hi All, I added a new project to the solution in CVS named "UnitTests" located in the \current_work\Source\RssBandit.UnitTests folder. It's an NUnit class library that contains Unit Tests of a few key classes in the RssComponents assembly. There's not a whole lot there yet, but I hope to add more. Especially as we find bugs (if we find them) ;) The Unit Tests are a nice starting point for learning how to use the RssComponents library. I plan to write up a more thorough article about it later, but here's a quick summary. To run the Unit tests, run nunit-gui.exe in the folder RssBandit.UnitTests\ExternalDependencies. On my machine, I set the RssBandit project as the startup project set the debugger to run the nunit-gui.exe. One of the highlights of the unit tests is that some of them use the Cassini web server code provided by Microsoft. These tests create and start a web server on port 8081 (you can change this of course) pointing to the directory RssBandit.UnitTests\Resources\WebRoot directory and then test some of the auto-discovery functionality against the files that are located there. Thus the tests of any functionality that makes web requests are all self contained and repeatable (i.e. we can still run the tests despite network outages, changing URLs, etc...). Currently, the tests fail to auto-discover the ATOM feeds. I'm not sure if my test is wrong or if the code is wrong. Please let me know! :) I'd like to write some more tests of key functionality (as a learning excercise), but much of the interesting code is in the WinForms project. Enjoy and let me know your comments! Phil __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Finance Tax Center - File online. File on time. http://taxes.yahoo.com/filing.html |

I'm not using the current beta, but a nightly build from about a week ago. I have several feeds which display the latest x posts from some bulletin boards. Consequently, there are a lot of items in a feed with exactly the same headline: "RE: topic xyz". I noticed that once I read such a item, all other items with the same headline are marked as read too. My guess is that RSS Bandit just refers to the single items via the headline. Wouldn't it be cleaner to use some unique id-number? Michael |

Torsten and I are getting ready to ship the next version of RSS Bandit and have made a beta version available at http://rssbandit.sourceforge.net/builds/Bandit.2004.03.24.bin.zip=20 The beta version adds a couple of features over the last version of RSS Bandit such as support for the Atom 0.3 syndication format, the ability to import OPML lists into a specific category, translations to German & simplified Chinese, ability to display logos of feeds that provide them and auto-completion when typing URLs in the address bar. The beta version also fixes a number of bugs such as the fact that the notification bubble pops up too frequently, right-clicking URLs in the address bar makes them disappear, inability to launch the application on Win98/WinME, sometimes closing a browser tab causes dozens of IE windows to be spawned, clicking mailto: or news: links opens a new browser tab and most importantly the fact that in certain cases feeds are not updated. =20 Any comments about the beta version should be brought up on the mailing list[0] or discussion board[1]. Bugs should be filed in the bug database on SourceForge[2] and feature requests go to the feature request database on SourceForge[3].=20 Our current plan is for the beta to last 2 to 3 weeks after which we'll create an installer for the next release.=20 PS: Given that RSS Bandit now supports other formats besides RSS and will support more technologies in future (e.g. NNTP) it seems to make sense for us to rename the application. Torsten and I are interested in any suggestions for a new name for the project.=20 [0] http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/rssbandit-users [1] http://www.rssbandit.org/forum [2] http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=3D615248&group_id=3D96589&func=3Dbro= wse=20 [3] http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=3D615251&group_id=3D96589&func=3Dbro= wse -- PITHY WORDS OF WISDOM=20 The first myth of management is that it exists. =20 This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.=20 |

I watch several lists. Longhornblogs, blogs.msdn.com etc that have OPML files and updates. I would like to request a feature that will allow for rssbandit to query that OPML download it and add and or remove feeds (of course ask if you want to remove the feed) based on the difference in the opml. thanks Douglas |

Hello all, I added some tasks related to UI Translation at sourceforge.net: http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?group_project_id=34629&group_id=96589 &func=browse So to get an idea what languages are offered by contributors and how it progress, have a look there. I added also some contact data of the contributors offered the translation there, so if you cannot wait and want to distribute/help by yourself: contact the contributor(s). CU, TorstenR |

In Rss Bandit. I use MyIE2 for by browser and it has a function to zoom (using ctrl +/-) in the browser pages. It would be nice to have that function in rssbandit also. Another Item I would like to see is a redundant xml feed list so if one gets corrupted it doesn't take forever to rebuild the list. I watch about 900 feeds and have had it lose the feed list 3 times. (last time luckily I had just made and export so only took a bit for those I had added later. Douglas |

Another request: Please please show a warning, when RSS Bandit is closing and there are still active Downloads, something like "Do you really...". Just a few minutes ago I lost 90 MB just because I did not think for a moment and clicked "close" instead of "minimize". |

Michael, The backend search code in RssComponents is well prepared to consider a "search scope" of specific feeds to look into. What's missing is a good Gui representation for the feeds selection. My idea was to have a separate small window displayed on a button click within the search pane. That view would show a "checked treeview", so one can check on/off the catgories/feeds to be included in the search. Think, we did not yet have a task defined for that. We should do so to be remembered... ;-) Torsten -----Original Message----- From: rss...@li... Subject: [rssbandit-users] Extension of Search Folders Hi, I recently began to use the Search Folder feature, and it's really very useful. However, I would like to see an addition, allowing to exclude certain feeds from the search. For example, I'm a Delphi programmer, and I have a search folder, searching for the regular expression: "Pascal|Delphi|Borland". Now there are a few Delphi specific feeds and blogs from Borland employees, where nearly every posts contains one of these words. I always go trough all of the items in that feeds, and I want to Search Folder to only display items from other feeds... BTW, RSS Bandit is great. Keep up the good work.
