on OSX 10.7.3 Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.21 OpenSSL/0.9.8r DAV/2 PHP/5.3.8 with Suhosin-Patch, Roundcubemail 0.7.1 with Zend 2.11 on a gmail account with 1000 contacts.
I get 20 contacts and then the error:
"Expected response code 200, got 404
Photo not found"
Also the 20 contacts have no details.

Please also update the readme, and add screenshots :)

Thanks,
Bogdan.

I can see google_contacts table pretty full (1400 columns)

Just added google_contacts plugin (2.11) to my RoundCube (0.7.1) installation using Zend framework 1.11.11 and I get the same error. In roundcube's logs directory there is a google_contacts file containing the following:

    [06-Mar-2012 16:14:15 +0000]: Expected response code 200, got 403
    <html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    <title>Error
    403
    (Forbidden)!!1</title>
    <style type="text/css">

    </style></head>
    <body><a href="//www.google.com/" id="g"><img src="//www.google.com/images/logo_sm.gif" alt="Google"></a>
    <p><b>403.</b>
    <ins>That&#39;s an error.</ins></p>
<p>Your client does not have permission to get URL <code>/m8/feeds/contacts/XXXX@XXXX.XX/full</code> from this server.
    <ins>That&#39;s all we know.</ins></p></body></html>

(google login name changed to XXXX@XXXX.XX, some base64 data deleted)

It's a young and clean install, only plugin besides google_contacts added so far is keyboard_shortcuts.

    That "nobody" was me.
One thing to add: in my case google_contacts was not able to retrieve _any_ contact from my google account. Username and password checked twice.

Ok, I have "fixed" it for my problem, but the information should be stated somewhere in the installation instructions, i.e. the README:
I use by "regular" (i.e. non-googlemail) email-address to log in to all google services. Inside google, that email-address maps to a <whatever>@googlemail.com address. In order to use the google_contacts plugin, the ...@googlemail.com address has to be used.

This problem happens for me as well. It can load about 50 of my 300 contacts, then fails with "Expected response code 200, got 404 Photo not found".

    roundcube 0.8-svn and latest google_contacts

I was asked to be more specific with my "fix", so here are some additional comments:
    - as I am aware now my error differed from the one submitted here originally in two points:
    i) I was not able to even load a single contact from google contacts. The error popped up immediatelly
ii) the message after "got 404" was in my case "Your client does not have permission to get URL..." and not as stated in the bug report "photo not found"
    - when I signed up for google I did not get a @gmail.com address from them, but instead a @googlemail.com address. I believe this is due to me residing in Germany. I assume if you have and use a @gmail.com address as credentials for google_contacts plugin (in Roundcube's 'settings' --> 'address book' page) and still get an error, then my "fix" will not apply to you.

I get 1 contact and then the error: "Expected response code 200, got 404 Photo not found". However, if I comment out the part between //start photo and //end photo it works like a charme.
