I finally found the problem in my previous post (error while creating project blog). (Some of) the .xml files you ship contain a BOM, a three byte marker at the beginning, used for example by Notepad in Windows.
The parser chokes on the BOM, that is a known java bug[1] that will not be fixed. So, it would be advisable to ship the files without the BOM, or at least tell users that could be a problem or see that the parser doesn't get it (sorry, no patch).
