Remove old install

" $ su - 
" $ cd /pathway-to/rkhunter-(old version) (very handy if you used USB stick) 
" # sh installer.sh --layout default --remove

Starting uninstallation

Removing installation files:
Removing rkhunter.8: OK
Removing /usr/local/bin/rkhunter: OK
Removing /etc/rkhunter.conf: OK
Please remove any /etc/rkhunter.conf.* files manually.
Removing installation directories:
Removing /usr/local/lib/rkhunter: OK
Removing /usr/local/share/doc/rkhunter-1.3.8: OK
Removing /usr/local/share/doc/rkhunter-1.4.0: OK
Removing /var/lib/rkhunter: OK
Finished removing files. Please double-check.

If you chose an custom, or some other layout, then try this

 " sh installer.sh --layout custom /opt --remove

If you no longer have the unpacked folder on your system, unpack the new tarball and run above command from within the new unpacked folder please.
