I've just released ReplayPC 0.4.0. The documentation isn't as complete as I'd like, but so far the technical writing fairy hasn't shown up begging to be allowed to write. The big user visible changes with this release: 1. support for 4500s/4.3 -- indeed, the ReplayPC executable itself now *only* supports this version 2. more executables -- separate httpfs, rtvguide and rddns executables, for instance The source tree (also released) has support for quite a few other executables, but of much more limited interest. For now, they're not in the binary packages; it might make sense to do a supplemental release at some point. I intend to try to follow the 'release early, release often' strategy from here on out. -- Todd Larason | Obligatory 'blog: http://molelog.molehill.org/ | UIN: 2039410 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ They can have my computer when they pry it from my cold dead fingers. http://www.politechbot.com/docs/cbdtpa/ http://www.eff.org/ |

I just checked in some changes to make it runtime-controlled, based on the ReplayTV software version. the 'httpfs' and 'rtvguide' clients now take a -s (software version) argument to set that; if it's not given, they try the RTV4K_VERSION environment variable; if that's not set either, a hardcoded default is used. Right now, that's 4.1.1(140) -- after 4.3 rolls out, that should be changed. I used -s instead of the more obvious -v or -V because I'd like to reserve them for 'verbose' and 'Version (of this software)' respectively. I didn't add a switch for the ReplayPC executable itself. Someone should probably do that, but frankly the switch parsing there gives me a headache.. Versions can be specified like: 520411140 4.1 4.1.1 4.1.1.140 4.1.1(140) 4.1.1 (140) 4.1(140) 4.1 (140) I added Yet Another new executable -- version-test -- for testing that parser. It was getting a bit out of hand, so I split the PROGRAMS list into two; PROGRAMS now just includes ReplayPC, httpfs, rtvguide, mark-commercial and rddns. All the debug, RNS-dumping and internals-dumping executables are EXTRA_PROGRAMS, not included in the binary distributions. I'm guessing anybody who'd be interested in the others are able (and probably prefer) to compile. -- John Todd Larason | The MPAA, RIAA and their paid-for Senators don't think www.molehill.org/p | you need a computer you can program. I just checked in a set of changes to start getting ready for this release: 1. new 'bindist' target automates building a binary package 2. Makefile & crypt.c changes to automatically use Mac OS X's md5 support in libcrypto. this is ugly, but it's mostly Apple's fault (they ship mismatched libraries & headers) 3. renamed encrypt and decrypt to avoid name collision with OS X libraries I'm sending Matt a matched set of sources, linux/x86 and darwin/ppc (OS X) binaries. -- Todd Larason | Free the mouse! http://eldred.cc/ 3500238865/p | UIN: 4668782 | AIM: AngelSl | |

Agreed. The plan should be to release ReplayPC 0.40 in in sync with the 4K software upgrade. At the very least, it needs an updated README. Preferably, some real docs. Also, the current source can be compiled to work with a 4500 *or* a 4000, but not both -- either that should be fixed, or the release should wait till the 4000s start getting updated, I think. > Does anyone have a 4500 to test with? They need to do it pretty soon to keep from annoying too many customers -- right now, 4000s and 4500s can't stream to each other. > E-mail me the archives, and I'll put them up as a release. I'll mail you separately a zipfile of the current CVS tree. I figured out how to release files once, but I've since forgotten. Tod (jt...@us...) - Since your managing the CVS tree, your going to have to manage the 0.40 release. Is the CVS tree ready? Tod usually builds the *nix tar archive. I think that Lee (lee...@us...) is willing to build the win32 zip archive. Is Randy still around? Who wants to build the Mac OSX archive? Does anyone have a 4500 to test with? Any more info on when the 4K's will get upgraded to the new Software? I guess we should just build release archives and then deal with bug as they present themselves. E-mail me the archives, and I'll put them up as a release. Matt -- 'Trying to make bits uncopyable is like trying to make water not wet. I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still alive and kicking! Production at the OEM I work for is currently about 3 weeks behind schedule, so I have been putting in lots of overtime hours (without pay) to try and help get them caught back up.=20 When my real life settles down a bit, I'll get back to work on ReplayPC. For the next release, I plan to rewrite ReplayPC from scratch to clean up the code and move code that is duplicated several places throughout the program to neat and tidy functions. I also plan to start the first pass at a very simple text mode interactive user interface that will allow the user to browse the available programs with detailed descriptions from the guide file, mark desired programs for download, and then fetch them all in one batch. Hoping to be getting back to the fun stuff soon! mlinehan out! -- Using MicroSoft software is like using drugs: Initially your dealer gives you the stuff real cheap, but once they have you hooked, they raise the price, force you to redistribute their products, and beat the hell out of you if you try to quit! |

There are also several variations including a java version and an Apache/PHP Server."=20 "source code" is a http link to the project www site replaypc.sourceforge.net! Version 0.3 of ReplayPC should be ready for public download soon. Planned enhancements for V0.3: Cross platform code V0.3 source compiles properly on Win2K, and Redhat-Linux ReplayPC should work on most versions of Windows and Linux BSD and OS-X support is probably working as well Added -o option This option makes ReplayPC fetch a file and send it to stdout This allows direct streaming from the ReplayTV to a mpg player app This option also impacts the -g option and the -c option as well Removed mpg fix up code 4K ReplayTV mpg files don't need it This also removed the need for the -er raw extract feature Replaced "Marching Dots" Progress indicators ReplayPC now reports Bytes or KB received on one line as it come in =46ixed guide.dat file bug The guide.dat file should now have the ####end attach#### removed ReplayPC V0.3 pre-release is being tested by our crack team of ninja coders. If all goes well, this will probably be a very good weekend!
