Ren'py

I know the ren'ai project has been sleeping/comatose for like 3 years now, so I'll direct people to http://www.bishoujo.us/renpy/ which has accomplished pretty much what this project was supposed to 3 years ago. It's written in Python, but otherwise is functionally similar what the ren'ai project wanted.

CVS Snapshot source and buld (Feb 19th 2002)

Get it now
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=24354

I have included the link libararies and header files in case anyone wants to compile it themselves. Linux and Macintosh users will need to find the libaries themselves (see INSTALL in the source package)

August 9th Demo

New version of the "demo" is available. The only thing really visibly notable is the Japanese text intermingled with the english text and that M plays a ogg vorbis audio file instead of the old file. (The old file is still in the renaidata.zip however)

New Demo , now with mouse cursor ^^;

The new demo now has mouse cursor support, so you should see a purple-blue mouse cursor in either mode, and this will give you a good idea of how slow the 2D mode actually is.

(Some debugging code was left in, some extra useless info appears in stderr )

New Build of the Demo

The new build of the ren'ai game engine demo now starts with the music enabled but not playing (PITA during debugging ^^;) Press Up/Down to play with the music, and left to play the sound effect.

It now displays 3 copies of the character, this will reflect the approximate speed of the game engine during actual use (More are possible, 3 seems reasonable)

More of the changes are to the code design, so check out the cvs to see what's changed since the last time.

New Survey - Location

Okay, because we keep getting very vague answers for these questions, I have put them in their own survey and there is no room to give vague comments. You pick a number from 1 to 5 that represents the answer you want. Ignore the "High" or "Low" since I'm not looking at it.

Please everyone answer it. I want this issue to be over with quickly.

Renai Demo/DemoData available

You can download the demo files from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=24354
or
http://renai.sourceforge.net/demo/

The renaidata.zip contains data that can be used on any platform, the other two zip files are win32 binaries.

No fonts are included, you will have to edit the renai.cfg after running it once to tell it where to find a TTF font file.

New Documentation

We now have a draft of the GAME's characters that we plan to use:

http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=3984&group_id=24354

This is by no means a final version of the document, we may add more characters later, or change these ones if we find we have to.

Realistic Survey

Okay, let's get some feedback on how realistic the game should be, or if it should be realistic at all.

http://sourceforge.net/survey/survey.php?group_id=24354&survey_id=11590

And if you haven't given feedback for the previous survey, it's still up at
http://sourceforge.net/survey/survey.php?group_id=24354&survey_id=11584

If you do NOT want to fill in a question LEAVE IT BLANK.

Documentation Added

Kisai has uploaded a document that explains how typical ren'ai and visual novels work and look like.
The third section of it proposes ways to duplicate the various interface styles of the visual novels and ren'ai games.
