I am working on a Mac OS X port of Quadra at the moment (along with a few other things), and I'm finding that the old 48x48 Quadra icon is a bit out of place, between the 128x128 icons in my Applications folder. Not to mention that we could certainly use a little refreshment on our other platforms! So we'd be looking for a new icon for Quadra, 128x128 with alpha. Send me an email with your contribution! Thanks! |

Good news: The Quadra master server is back online! Been a while since there has been any post here... * Quadra master server outage First, the bad news: the server hosting the Quadra master server is currently down. Since I moved to Europe at the beginning of June and the server is still located in Canada, this is a bit tricky to manage, but we're working on it. * Hosting wanted for the Quadra master server On a semi-related note, that server runs on my personal server machine, and I would like to shut it down. I migrated away most of the things I ran on it elsewhere, one of the last things left is the Quadra master server, and I would like to find a new home for it. It's a Perl CGI script, carefully crafted to use very little CPU, needing only to run on a Unix/Linux-based web server. Contact me if you would like to propose your services! * Porting Quadra to SDL I am currently in the process of porting Quadra to the SDL library (http://www.libsdl.org/), replacing its (crufty) internal multi-platform code. This will both allow Quadra to run on more platforms (I'm currently developing on Mac OS X, for example), and simplify the code a great deal to make it easier to work on for contributors. Currently, the only main component missing is the audio, although I cut out the CD music feature, and a few Win32-specific features (I might look into re-enabling them later), but it's getting close... |

I just rebuilt my home box yesterday, which runs the Quadra "master server" (the server that lists the available game servers and keeps the high scores). In the process, I "upgraded" the master server to a new version rewritten from scratch that is much easier to modify and has a much smaller performance impact on my machine. As you can understand, easier to code and better performance on my home machine make me appreciate this new version much better! Also, the older version wouldn't work on the server that hosts the official Quadra web site (http://quadra.sourceforge.net/) and the new one does. When I am done debugging the new version, I will move it there and it should bring a new era of stability to the master server! For example, when I take my computer to a LAN party, there will be no downtime... ;-) But there is a downside... It doesn't support all of the master server commands YET, namely nothing that's not "postgame" and "getgames". So high scores, "getgameshtml" and others are all out to lunch. I'll be fixing those soon, but I figured I'd better tell some people, just in case they wondered what the hell was happening. Have fun! -- Pierre Phaneuf http://advogato.org/person/pphaneuf/ |

Actually the new Quadra can play with the older ones without any problem, so you don't have to worry about anything: upgrading can only be a good thing (there were (is still?) a few bugs in Quadra if you can believe it :)). -- Stéphane Lajoie da...@ca... |

Quadra 1.1.8 was just released today. This is a RECOMMENDED upgrade, because the network protocol has changed (meaning that the new Quadra cannot play with the older one, and the old can't play with the new). The handicap system has been greatly improved, HTTP proxies are now supported and a number of other minor features and bugfixes have been added as well. Go get it now! http://quadra.sourceforge.net/ Thank you for your interest in Quadra! -- Pierre Phaneuf |

Ok, it's back up, once again! :-) Quadra and QSnoop should both work correctly now, until the next hard disk crash. Always keep good backups, kids! ;-) I'm still reeling from fixing a truck-load of stuff that depended on this server, including rebuilding my own workstation and so on, so maybe I didn't check everything perfectly, but it works for the most part (if you see any problems in the immediate, submit a support request on our web site!). Thanks for not killing anyone (me, in particular!) during those hard Quadra withdrawal moments! :-) -- Pierre Phaneuf |

Good news everyone! We've finally managed to put back up the old Quadra master server! This means that it should be back online with the current Quadra version, there is no immediate need for an updated version. This is a temporary measure (temporary being "less than a year" :-) ), we will still release a new Quadra version at some point in the near future, but this is so we can feel less pressure on us, to get this *right* (and not make you download another new version in 3 months!). It might take a day or two (okay, maybe three, but I'd be surprised) for the DNS information to propagate to your Internet providers, so it won't work right away, but it is there and working, don't worry! For those that used the message boards we had on our web site, sorry, they had to be taken down. Quadra players can get on the players mailing list, at http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/roster/quadra-general, for an equivalent forum! -- Pierre Phaneuf http://www3.sympatico.ca/pphaneuf/ |

Yes, there are problems with the Quadra master server (which provides the list of Quadra servers). We are working on this, but unfortunately, it seems like we will need to issue a new version of Quadra to fix this. So we're hard at work on a fix and we'll release this as soon as it's ready! -- Pierre Phaneuf http://www3.sympatico.ca/pphaneuf/ |
