would it be possible not to write the settings to the filename by default?

my preference would be an incremental file naming convention with a separate XML (oh, well, it is TXT at the moment) settings file, e.g.

from test.hdr

test001.png - test001.xml
test002.png - test002.xml
test003.png - test003.xml
test004.png - test004.xml
...
