Greetings, We are happy to announce the release of PyMOL v1.7.4.0! Official PyMOL sponsors can download ready-to-use installers from http://pymol.org/download . The open-source code has been pushed to sourceforge svn (revision 4104). This release is focused on adding and/or improving support for several file formats, in particular mmCIF. - mmCIF - fast loading - multi-letter chain support - loads auth_asym_id as chain and label_asym_id as segi - fetch with “fetch 1a00, type=cif” - saving (.cif extension, atoms and symmetry only) - experimental connect_mode=4 uses components.cif for bonding (file must exist in current directory or COMPONENTS_CIF environment variable) - load Desmond idx files - load spi (spider) maps - load map and mrc extensions as ccp4 - Python callback objects now stored in PSE files If you have a powerful graphics card and enough memory, try this: PyMOL> fetch 3j3y, type=cif PyMOL> set cartoon_oval_quality, 4 PyMOL> as cartoon That’s over 2 million atoms. Don’t try this on a weak laptop :-) Find the complete release notes on: http://pymol.org/d/media:new174 We welcome any feedback and bug reports.
