During the startup sequence on OS X and Linux, dialogs (to prompt for a password, or to ask about read-only mode) sometimes appear behind the splash screen. Clicking the splash screen can trigger the dialog to appear. In the meantime, it seems that the app is taking forever to start; when in reality it is waiting for the user to respond to the dialog.
