plugin configs

Hi folks,
I'd like to start a discussion about phpsysinfo pluggin configuration files.
As I am the maintainer of phpsysinfo for Debian I got the policy request to store alll configuration files somewhere under /etc/phpsysinfo/
See also http://bugs.debian.org/623306
To be honest I'm not sure what might be best practise to deal with this but I'd suggest some conf.d/ folder where all plugin configuration files are stored?
What do you think/say about?
Cheers
Bjoern
In my opinion, is that configuration files are the type of php and should not be in the /etc

it's not unusual that configuration files are written in some interpreted language
