Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

my idea isnt that orignial i thought it could be a single mail client program that would download all your mail from all your different mail accounts - just dont know how that will fit into the project - or if anyone has done it before already Doesnt really fit into the bulk emailer engine project though!!! i guess one of the main aims of the project will be to make sure the mail doesnt get blocked as spam!!! __________________________________________________ Yahoo! I also agree 100%, I am working on specs as we speak, however any input w= ould=20 be really helpful. I needed a bulk mail prog, so I wrote what you see no= w.=20 Some of the things written are very specific to my needs at the time, I w= ould=20 like to see it end up as a very customizable mailer, able to mail anythin= g=20 needed, to as many people needed as quickly and easily as possible, and l= oad=20 all of the data from either a database, or flatfile etc. So please throw= out=20 ideas on what you would like to see it do! Also any good ideas on how we= can=20 keep this from becoming a spam monster would be great too, as that is far= =20 from the intentions. Hi, I am vague of what is program is supposed to do. I understand that It basically sends mass email about products to people that are registered on mail servers. ( like advetisement). The info about product is retrieved from database. Please clarify by giving scenario. We need to come up with requirements and specifications written down in plain english first. Requirements specification I guess. Konstantin |

Nathan, Options class is part of the apache commons project. A CLI parser. All of the apache source code for the packages I have used so far can be downloaded at jakarta.apache.org. The query it tries to run is loaded from the "mailer" in the mailer directory, from the props file. MailerProps.java is the class that loads those props. Nothing is multithreaded yet, I do have a person interested in the multithreading work, so I think I will ask him to join us. Also there is no flatfile access yet. Lots of work to do other than that as well, logging, better db access, etc. So lets all throw out some ideas in discussion and decide who wants to do what. Oh also, we do have a tester that has joined the project, so lets route any decent builds to him somehow for testing. Hi i have got the code and have a few questions about what was received... in the class "MailMain" there is a variable of class type Options...i have looked in the java API and i cant seem to find where this is from, can you tell me where it is declared? When i start the "MailMain" class it tries to run a query...it messes this up but thats not what concerns me...can you tell me which class this is declared in...calling the query that is Lastly i was wondering of you could tell me where i could get my hands on all those juicy source code i.e for the classes in the apache packages, these have the byte code but not the orignial source... Thanks Nathan/silicondreams __________________________________________________ Yahoo! Plus - For a better Internet experience http://uk.promotions.yahoo.com/yplus/yoffer.html |
