If I choose to repeat by tying, the answers I type in are not formatted (i.e. they are black on white). The formatting (e.g. blue italic font on green background) is oly used when showing the cards initially. I would expect that I type in that format, too.
This seems to be deliberate (Bug ID: 1602290).
There are people who created lessons with different formatting for different cards and complained to me that Pauker reveals too much information about the reverse side in the repeating step. So, yes, this is a feature, not a bug.
I see that there are arguments for both versions. If you feel very strong about it I invite you to send me a patch that makes this feature optional.
