Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Brian Nalewajek (brian27) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: SQL Server DDL Dup CONSTRAINT Initial Comment: Using the 2/6/2007 CTP, the SQL Server DDL generated a script that passed the Parse check, but failed in execution due to duplicate CONSTRAINT names. The errors seem to be where there is a fixed length character type. There were 5 instances of CONSTRAINT State_Chk, in the test. Manually changing the names to make them unique cleared the problem in this test. Let me know if uploading the .SQL file would help. I thought that one of the team members referenced this before, but I couldn't find it. My belief is that the current release was focused on stablity and performance issues with the core tool functionality; and that the DDL scripts were not a high priority, but are noted for later. I've found it best to take the DDL script that the custom tool generation produces and do some editing on it before trying to run it. Actually, I make a copy of it in another folder I create in the project, and use SQL Server 2005 Management Studio to open the file from that folder. When I open it in VS 2005 (my edition anyway), I get a plain text editor; while SSMS gives me the color coded SQL editor, with parsing and execution options. After editing, I save it back to the project folder - incase I need to try something else later. The other option is to run the DDL as is, and if it works, change the data type for the columns in the DB. Either way will work, but the first is more self documenting. Obviously, better vendor specific script genereation would be best, but you have option for now. BTW, I brought up the issue of doing the create schema in a transaction in another item. If you remove the GO directives until just before the SP creation, the SCHEMA and TABLE creation will will work as a pass/fail transaction, so if there's a problem, it's easier to clean up. Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Brian Nalewajek (brian27) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Object with sample data - PRM change Initial Comment: Hi, While trying to sort out a model, I noticed some unexpected behaviour. Changing the an object's primary referance mode works Ok, unless there is sample data for that object. In the later case, rather than change the object, it creates a new object with the new PRM, and leave the old one (though not visble in the diagram, it's in the object browser). I figured something was wrong after a PRM change, and errors stating a miss-match for same data, and the old PRM! Also, if you delete the object (with the new PRM, from the diagram, the old PRM version alone remains - in the object browser. As you don't see this all in the diagram, it can be very disorientating, to say the least. Figuring I might have selected 'Delete Shape' insteed of 'Delete object' by mistake, I ran a test in a clean diagram/.orm file with only one object. Changing the PRM worked as expected, with th object's properties being updated correctly, and in the diagram. Repeating the change after adding sample data to the object, gave the unexpected results listed above. I then tried deleting the changed object on the diagram, and only that version was deleted, leaving the original PRM version in the object browser. If you click in empty space where some of the Reading Editor objects ought to be then they show up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Matthew Curland (mcurland) Date: 2006-11-15 23:27 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1452263 Originator: NO This is a symptom of a larger issue that the NORMA team is begining to work through. As we add more toolwindows to NORMA we continue to add additional DSLTools event listeners. One of them is causing problems, but we don't know which one because we aren't seeing other error messages associated with this report. Basically, an exception is causing event firing to terminate prematurely, so some of our tool windows are getting an ElementEventsBegun event but not an ElementEventsEnded. This essentially leaves the grid-based windows (Reading, Reference Mode, Sample Population) with redraw turned off and no way to turn it back on. Another symptom is that a file reload wil give a whole bunch of duplicate name errors (the name tracking also relies on the event sequence completing). Basically, once you get in this state you should restart. We are designing a mechanism to wrap individual event handlers so that exceptions are isolated and do not cause system breakdowns. We will include this with the next drop. That will also let use track what the current underlying problem is (we don't actually know, this type of bug is just a symptom). A possible culprit (due to its youth and difficulty) is the ORM Context Window. Close the tab, shut down VS, and restart to run without initializing it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Kevin M. The attached ORM file won't re-open any more, I get an "argument out of range" exception. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Clifford Heath (cjheath) Date: 2006-11-15 11:46 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1608419 Originator: YES In changing the ORM model for Event/Series as per the comments in the forum (see <http://polyplex.org/cjh/software/orm> for details and ORM sample files), I needed to re-enter the twenty rows of sample event data and reproduced the display defect, as per the attached screen-shot and ORM file below. This file has sample data for the 20 "NumberInSeries" objectified relationships, but I've been unable to use the sample population drop-downs to re-enter sample data for the Event entity itself, so there are remaining errors in the model. It's just too buggy to use at this level. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Clifford Heath (cjheath) Date: 2006-11-14 17:17 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1608419 Thanks blmeyers. I had an old copy of the file - I'm being more careful after the last breakage :-) My last comment was out of sequence, but seems to be relevant anyhow. There were missing rows violating mandatory constraints because I couldn't re-open the file and finish them :-). One scenario for reproducing a "sticky" validation error is to type a bad character into a field - I accidentally typed a back-quote into a date field - then retyping to correct the value doesn't make the error go away (value '2006/1`' in the sample population for... is not of the specified data type') even though the error has been corrected. The only way to make the error dissappear seems to be to ^Z all the way back, discarding data entered since the error, until it goes away - then go forward without making further errors! I didn't try restarting VS for fear the project wouldn't load again. The same sort of thing happens with other validation errors, like missing values "fails to identify an instance of...". I can't reproduce the display issues now, but part of my troubles come from starting to type after clicking in a field but before the drop-down arrow appears (this takes one or two seconds). Typing in the intervening time makes the cursor jump to a different field. Very confusing. It'd be great if this was fixed and I could just TAB between fields. Thanks for your quick attention to these issues. I'm a great believer in the usefulness of this project! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ben Meyers (blmeyers) Date: 2006-11-14 17:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1497243 The last comment was from me, lost my internet as I submitted. Don't seem to be able to append a file to your tracker item right now, but you should be able to temporarily fix the issue by opening up the orm file in a text editor and deleting the entire Model Errors section. I'll try to get one of the admins to attach the file tomorrow. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2006-11-14 16:53 Message: Logged In: NO Feature requests have been reposted as such, the issue causing your file to not load has been fixed in our code base. Extra errors are in the ORM that don't actually exist and a few seem to be missing, and the code for cleaning them up was malfunctioning. Still working to discover why extra errors were added. The attached file is fixed and should load correctly. NORMA will regenerate all errors for the given model. Please let me know if you manage to replicate this issue. The single space is a known issue, occuring at the control level. Hopefully will be fixed soon. The error messages should show the type of ObjectType the instance is, apparently the mandatory error didn't get that change though. This is also fixed. As for unreliable validation and redisplay issues, if you could be a bit more specific about what was happening and how to reproduce it I would be very appreciative. Thanks for the feedback! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Clifford Heath (cjheath) Date: 2006-11-14 16:34 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1608419 Ok, some more detail on what causes the "argument out of range" on reload. It appears that after typing a row into a fact type, the last value is only partially committed if you click away to another VS window before clicking away to another row. This shows up as missing data in other fact type sample data, and as exceptions on reload. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=809608&aid=1595405&group_id=158881 |

Saw that same error message "not set to instance..." (actually got the error when trying to rename the objectified prediacte to a better (and shorter), name, and wasn't sure why that popped up. I deleted the whole objectified predicate, and readded it. I had some sample data associated with the fact type, and it may have had something to do with it. I made sure I cleared out any sample data before re-entering the fact elements (BTW, I also realized that the 4 arity type I had should have been a trinary fact objectified, and that then used as the object in a binary to keep all the facts elementary - had to think that one through a few times to be sure. I guess it's possible that the non-elementry fact I first used, somehow caused the error). In any case, the new trinary fact type worked, and I was able to give the nested fact type a new name, without error - of course the IUCs were a bit different with the 3 arity fact too. Obviously, there's no definite answer in the above, but there are things to try. Clear the sample data, check the arity, the IUCs, and the properties of the OP. Also, make sure that there are no (other), errors or warnings in the errors ist tab, before and after rentering the fact type. Yea, it would be great if we had the fully functional, fully tested and documented product to work with, but I guess this is the only way to get there. Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Clifford Heath (cjheath) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Sample population editor has multiple issues Initial Comment: Issues include: * File cannot be re-opened after entering sample data, * Multiple (re-)display issues - items not displaying in correct locations or at all, * Keyboard navigation is basically impossible, must use mouse - should be able to type, hit <enter>, type more, etc... * Initial value consists of a single space, which sometimes remains in the value and sometimes not, depending on usage (initial space shouldn't exist and spaces should be trimmed) * Population validation errors indicate, for example, that "Instance '6' does not participate in required fact type", but doesn't identify which entity type instance 6 relates to, * Validation isn't reliably performed when switching windows, or produces errors not mirrored in the other windows (error list, verbalization browser, sample population editor), * Sample populations need to be able to be imported via CSV files, etc * Need to be able to sort data by column headings * When entering data on an relationship to an entity having a RefMode of ID, the selection drop-down should if possible display values from another already-populated candidate key. I'm entering sample data into the attached model using some of the info from the Tue and Wed series at <http://street.orienteering.com.au>, if you want to attempt the same thing to see the problems. The attached ORM file won't re-open any more, I get an "argument out of range" exception. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=809608&aid=1595405&group_id=158881 |

Bugs item #1594929, was opened at 2006-11-12 14:58 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by cjheath You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=809608&aid=1594929&group_id=158881 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 8 Private: No Submitted By: Clifford Heath (cjheath) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Null reference after meddling with Objectified type Initial Comment: Not exactly sure how I caused this, but it's broken my project (model of scoring database for orienteering) and I can't fix it after more than an hour trying. The file's attached. "Event" was related to "Series" incorrectly and I objectified the relationship before trying to delete it, and now most is deleted but any reference to the remaining bits cause a "not set to an instance of an object" or Visual Studio crashing. If you do work out the cause, I'd appreciate knowing how I can recover my project without re-entering everything. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Clifford Heath (cjheath) Date: 2006-11-12 18:38 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1608419 Wow - that was super-quick! Thanks! I hope my little model is interesting to someone. BTW, the sourceforge documentation file about how to create a database schema has been redundant for some time now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Kevin M. Owen (kevinowen) Date: 2006-11-12 15:31 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1014759 Hi Clifford. I believe I have identified what was causing this to happen, and I'll make sure it gets fixed for our next release. In the mean time, I have manually fixed your model file to remove the remaining parts of that relationship. The corrected file is attached. Thank you for reporting this, and I apologize for any inconvenience this bug has caused. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=809608&aid=1594929&group_id=158881 |
