I get the "DB Error: syntax error" when attempting to
add or edit user information... Linux based system,
Pear/MySQL up to date...

fixed the problem... Changed from AES to SHA.

Where did you change AES to SHA? I have the same problem.

I updated MySQL from v 3.23 to v 4.0 and this fixed the
problem for me, perhaps you can try the same.
