Thank you for your hard work. As it was mentioned in "autogen.sh", I don't want to use autotools prior to 1.7. That's why "-1.7" is there. Hi there, I think here is the correct scale for buildings: 1 OpenCity / AC3D / OpenGL unit square =3D 2500 meter square Otherwise, each cell's edge is 50 meters long. I think that a 2500 meter=20 square surface is large enough for a big villa. Hi there, It seems that the trial version of AC3D comes with a .png texture loading plugin. However it was compiled with an old version of libpng. Indeed, the plugin tries to load "libpng.so.2". If you have a newever version eg. "libpng.so.3" it fails to load the texture in .png format. A work around for that problem is to create a sym link (as root) to libpng.so like this: cd /usr/lib ln -s libpng.so libpng.so.2 ldconfig Note: I have tested this on the latest AC3D trial. Hi everyone, Thanks to the patch sent by Stephen M. Webb, you can install OpenCity from now on. The command you should use for that is: "./autogen.sh && mkdir obj && cd obj && ../configure --enable-debug && make && make install" After installation, all source tree can be deleted safely. To launch OpenCity, go to "$HOME/bin/opencity/bin". You don't need to be root to install OpenCity because it will be installed into "$HOME/bin/opencity" by default. You can overwrite that default path by using: "../configure --enable-debug --prefix=/my/new/path" Note1: if OpenCity crashes, or aborts with debug enabled (./configure --enable-debug), blame the graphist who is reponsible for the models file, not me ;o) Note2: Current CVS version is highly experimental and contains dirty codes, if you think you have discovered an unexpected behaviour please let me know. Thats not bad idea, but ... :) i will agre with admin what that will change ?. Other thing that can be a feature later when a all buldings wil= l be complete as a base. Later we can add this feature (complete change of design eg. al'a medieval(setllers) or roman empire (cesar) ect. One of the problems I've always had with city growth simulation games is the lack of historic technological progression, something that has affected all real cities (for example, transportation modes and how they affected growth patterns). How would you feel about implementing something like that in OpenCity? I'm thinking something like having various rulesets (and graphics sets) for different "ages", and new technologies become available as a new "age" dawns. Eg, horse+cart -> rail+tram -> car+freeway. City walls -> suburbs. Etc. It would add a soupcon of realism to city growth. I can help with programming if you need it. -- smw |

Hi, There are the splash screen codes and graphics already in the CVS. They were commited about 2 weeks ago... The current splash screen displays some funny messages but I don't think that the end user is interested about "OpenCity loading road_s_w.ocm in progress...". Sometimes people left their IRC account in the channel but that doesn't mean they are there. I think that you should stay around in the channel if you have an unlimited connection. We don't use IRC like any other instant message system. If you want to talk with someone in the channel, try to specify his (or her ?;) ) nick in your message. Currently, the .conf file said: width=2 length=4 But in fact, in the .ac file, the model's size is width=1 length=1.5 <-- float value is invalid The +Ox axis is considered as width, wheras the +Oz axis is considered as length. The +Oy is considered as height and height can be float.
