As a further restriction, the radio hardware of the handset is not  
designed to support full-duplex operation.  In GSM, the handset is  
effectively half-duplex in the radio channel, but the BTS is not.   
This puts a lot of filtering requirements on the BTS that are of no  
concern in the design of a handset.
