The main window is not saved on exit therefore when
program is restarted you get a small window of about
an inch and half in width and height.

Try saving your Desktop. I haven't encountered this
problem (inch and a half) at all, and once I saved the full-
screen-editor layout as my default Desktop, I was fine.

Don't know how to save the full screen desktop layout.

Mike, here's how I did it.

    1) Open Open Perl IDE (sounds like I'm stuttering, doesn't
    it?)
    2) Get the environment to look like you want it to. In my
case, I "x"ed out (closed) the Variables and Console panes -
which leaves the main Editor window "maximized". (IE -
using as much of the screen as is plausible)
    3) Now, to save the state - under the toolbar you'll see a
bar which says "Desktop: " and has a dropdown box. The
Dropdown box probably says "Default". Click in the
Dropdown box then hit <ENTER>. You should get a popup
asking if you want to re-save the default "desktop". Say
    yes.

Voila. This worked for me. I'll admit that alternate
desktop schema haven't worked quite as well as I'd hoped
(especially if they involve docked Help components) but
that basic Default editing environment works for me just
    fine.
