In the GTD book it is described how tasks with a deadline today should be pushed onto the next day, and so forth.

To implement this I suggest a "Move passed deadlines forward to today" button for moving all deadlines that occured in the past to the current day.

The alternative is to have a server process move them every day, but this seems like bad design and will put unnecessary load onto the server, and make install much harder.

This is functionality similar to the functionality implemented in "Planner-mode for Emacs" another very good GTD tool (but not web-enabled unfortunately).

What about a simulated push? If the deadline has passed, the deadline will be *shown* as today. But the actual deadline in the database will be unaltered.

Perfect. It has the same effect basically :)
