3DES is supported as a privacy option (in additional to
DES and AES) by many hardware vendors including Juniper
Networks, Ciso Systems and Nortel Networks.

Some customer environments now specify the use of 3DES
for encrypting all SNMP traffic.

Will Net-SNMP implement 3des along the lines of "
Extension to the User-Based Security Model (USM) to
Support Triple-DES EDE in "Outside" CBC Mode"
<draft-reeder-snmpv3-usm-3desede-00.txt?

Why add support for a *non-standard* (expired IETF draft)
privacy option that has no advantages over an existing
    *standard* privacy protocol (AES)?

tanders: we should support it as there is no reason not to really... You can't dictate what other people think meets their operational needs. Believe it or not, some people still view 3DES as more solid than AES simply because it's been longer fielded and subject to huge amounts of scrutiny.
