Thanks, I started putting them together a while ago and mentioned the scripts on a sparta-internal list. I don't remember what was said, but the feeling I got was that the scripts weren't necessary so I stopped working on them. I should have yanked the text from the document, but I forgot to. Wayne |

I started those lists because I didn't understand everything that was in the database. I figured that if everything was documented, then it would help me (and others) understand what data were available, what it is used for, who was modifying it, etc. For the user's guide, the most important things are that it be useful and accurate. If no one thinks it's useful to have these tables listed, then they should be removed. > I'll bring it up in the meeting... I expect this has already been decided. :) Wayne |

Do folks agree that it is useful to even have an exhaustive list of all of the admin tables? There are many not currently listed there, and I was starting to add them, then wondered if that's something we want. If so, I think i should also mention the "REFERENCES" attributes, e.g. where monitorlist.rolemonid references rolemonitoring.id. Worth doing? I'll bring it up in the meeting.... lindy |

I've been editing the userguide to bring it up to date, since it hasn't been touched since February '04. In Section 5 there is a list of the admin tables in the database (now updated to reflect things like usereference), and it also mentions a list of the other tables. I think it would be better to remove that list and replace it with some text along the lines of: "Additional tables are created automatically when modules are loaded which use MIB objects. Please see the individual MIBs for details." Does that sound okay? Any comments? thanks, lindy |

This looks like an error (probably a cut-and-paste error) in the preconfigured primary (in preconfig.pm). In the actions clause, there are these lines: actions => [[sub { if (!$_[0]->primary_was_run('ahTransform')) { np_add_policy_contents('netpolicyconfig.ipspAhTransformTable', 'AhTransName', qwparam('AhTransName')); } if (!$_[0]->primary_was_run('ahTransform')) { np_add_policy_contents('netpolicyconfig.ipspAhTransformTable', 'AhTransName', qwparam('AhTransName')); } if (!$_[0]->primary_was_run('pickipcomp')) { np_add_policy_contents('netpolicyconfig.ipspEspTransformTable', 'EspTransName', qwparam('EspTransName')); } return 'OK'; }], NOte that the first two if statements are identical, and the third one says, if ipcomp, add espTrans. It looks to me like there should be one for each of AH, ESP, and ipcomp. If no one can dispel this, I will go ahead and make this change. thanks, lindy |

Abhijit, I updated np-datad, that was indeed the error. The copy of np-datad I had in /sbin (and was executing) was dated Feb. 2, 2004! So I just removed that, it must be from before make install got reorganized. It seems to work just right now. I do have one other question about np-datad. When you run it, and the rows in policychange get processed (and marked with status 3), the managerid also changes. I have rows in policychange with an id, mode=1, roleid and policyid set. But when I run np-datad, this info does not get into roletopolicy. When I have roleid and clientid set, this data DOES get into clientsinroles. What's up? After running np-datad, the role/policy rows do get set to status=3, indicating they've been processed. lindy |

I've been testing lots of things, to make sure I haven't broken anything lately, and came across this. Manage clients-> Create New-> select role -> create new -> commit. This seems to put data in all the right databases, but says "ERROR: " on the commit page. Looking further, I found that I get errors in my log like: "no db passed in at /blah/blah/blah/MIBtoSQL.pm line 121, <I> line 1." I put in some debugging code, and it turns out this error is generated only when the ipCidrRouteTable is sent as an argument to setup_mib. ???? My DB does have the ipCidrRouteTable, and I have started with a fresh DB and still get this error. Any ideas? lindy |

But there's an error when I run vacm; I wonder if one of you could have a look? I'm not sure if this error occurred before these changes, but here's what it does now. Choose: Configure Your network Manage Access Control Create a new role Create a new policy Manage Group Membership Choose a Group (Create a new one) Add Access Privs, check Done adding privs Add users to group you just created enter a user name, then check Done adding users Commit Then, if you're like me, you'll get an error: "That user/security model combination is already a member of a group". But that's not true. I did some debugging, and the sub is_duplicate appears to be getting a match on blank = blank, thus finding it is a duplicate. Was this always broken? If not, any ideas what I've done to break it? I've wasted at least 1/2 day looking at it, and I'm fresh out of ideas. thanks, lindy |

Is that just an old line of code that Lindy> ought to come out anyway, or is there something else going on Lindy> here that I'm missing? History: All configuration modules ask a series of questions and then do a series of inserts into netpolicyconfig.* tables. *each* of these inserts are then also "automagically" copied into appropriate policycontents table entries (which I think is now done entirely by the policychange table). The thing we ran up against a long time ago was that we didn't want to make configuration module writers remember to add the stuff themselves, so we made net_policy_insert (if I recall) *remember* all the IDs for all the rows that it inserted into configuration tables. The old trick was that because the role/policy screens came first, the net_policy_insert functions mere remember stuff to act on and then later when the action clause for pickpolicies got called, it got the list of IDs and inserted them into the policychange table, tying the config row IDs to the policy IDs (which was then actually done when datad ran). This had to be done this way because the policy id wasn't going to be created until after the pickpolicy screen's actions actually created the policy! Wheee... So.... now, if the actions clauses for pickpolicies is getting called first (due to the advent of the -actionsfirst clause), then the policy will actually exist early (since it's created on time) and then net_policy_insert should probably be modified to self-insert into the policychange table. Make sense? Hopefully? -- Wes Hardaker Sparta |
