The documentation at the end discusses some errors
and possible fixes. For the "see perl source" bit, it says

Perhaps Apache hasn't loaded mod_perl (the PerlHandler
directive above should give you an error message in
error_log, and keep Apache from starting, if that's the
case) [...]

There is no mention of PerlHandler in the text above that.

Also, I found that even with no VirtualHosts defined on
1.3.28, I needed the "Ghosts in the machine might make
this necessary" config lines to get stuff to work right.

Other than that, works great! Thanks for bsittler for
telling me about it.
