SMP lockups in 2.4.19 and 2.4.20 kernels

The box is a Dell Precision 530 with dual Xeon 1.7 GHz
processors and 2 GB rdram. The distro is SuSE 8.1,
however I have a custom 2.4.19 kernel installed.
Starting with a SuSE 2.4.16 kernel, there were frequent
lockups with sbp2 drives attached. With 2.4.19, it
became perfectly stable and rock solid for UP kernels,
but I still get lockups with 2.4.19 SMP, and 2.4.20
SMP. When I say lockup, I mean the kernel freezes and
requires a power down and restart.

I have a similar issue with Redhat-7.3, linux-2.4.20, and
ieee1394 v752 (as well as the latest 2.4 distro checked in).
Also have dell but with dual 2.2 Xeons (with and without
hyperthreading enabled in BIOS).
However, my issue is with eth1394. Perhaps these are
related issues...
