Incorrect type detection for a utf8 string

I have a simple sequence of strings. The validator won\'t validate the file not_valid.yml with this message:
not_valid.yml#0: INVALID
- [/2] \'false\': not a string.
However, there is no \'false\' in the file. The string is \'nočná mora\'. The file valid.yml shows a file where \'nočná mora\' is quoted and that validates OK. There is no good reason while this particular string should behave differently from the others in the sequence.
I use ruby 1.8.7 (2010-08-16 patchlevel 302) [x86_64-linux]
