I'm running Mandrake 10. I can compile and install. Everything appears ok until I hit enter to establish connection to device attached to serial port. Then the application locks up.

Please disregard, it appears to have been a problem with using the serial port after undocking/re-docking the laptop. Rebooted and it worked fine.
