There are compilation problems on Ubuntu Linux
winston12 also reported compilation trouble on the help forum and I am also having trouble compiling.
Does the code use depreciated features of wx that would then be unsupported in 2.8?
Is it possible that configure is not catching a lib that is missing?
I have attached my configure and make output.

That's a Unicode incompatibility, something that I introduce fairly regularly because my regular build system is a Windows machine with a non-unicode WX build. It's since been fixed in CVS, and will also be fixed in the next release. Thanks for the report and log.
