while I´m not a total newbie with iptables I tried to use kmyfirewall (debian etch version: 1.0-1+b1) as a firewall quickstarter without much configuration. So I used the workstation template.
After debian specific configuration (how about adding the following as "debian" settings?)
/sbin/iptables
/sbin/modprobe
/etc/init.d
/etc/rc2.d
the firewall was installed.
After restarting my computer KDE wouldn´ t start anymore. This was due to the fact that "lo (127.0.0.1)" wasn´t in the list of trusted hosts.
Since kmyfirewall is a KDE program I´m quite surprised this could happen!
I like KMyfirewall but please think about a simple working "workstation template". (maybe even without the space consuming logging as we talk about *simple* setting, no debug setting)
