There are two options in KeePass settings under advanced tab. They are Remember Last Opened File and Automatically Open Last Used Database On Startup.
But I think the remembering has more to do with Windows rather than KeePass. More than likely Windows is keeping a record in one of its many most recently used lists.

When I hit the open button on keepass it goes right to where I have the file stored.
Anyway of preventing this?

Both Windows and KeePass remember. Not a problem if your password is decent.
