Hi, It would be great if Judoshiai would support a variant of the competition system "Brazilian Repechage" since this system technically produces "true" 1st, 2nd, and to some extent true 3rd places*, with minimum number of fights, still making it possible to have the finals after all other matches are finished. Software implementation is usually first step towards wider usage.
The system is technically close to single repechage, though with some important changes.
Be aware that several variations are to be found online.
The variant I would recommend due to the final being the last fight and fairness to the 3rd best player I found described in a document online:
Quote: "BRAZILIAN REPECHAGE - The Brazilian Repechage is set up and starts the same as the standard "Straight" Repechage system. When there are only four players left (that is, the winner of pool A, the winner of pool B, the winner of Repechage A, and the winner of Repechage B) the following matches occur to determine 1ST, 2ND and 3RD: 1) Match F1 - the winner of pool A fights the winner of Repechage B; 2) Match F2 - the winner of pool B fights the winner of Repechage A; 3) Match F3 - the loser of Match F1 and loser of Match F2 fight and the winner is 3RD Place; 4) Match F4 - the winner of Match F1 and winner of Match F2 fight and the winner is 1ST Place and the loser is 2ND Place. When compared to the "Standard" Repechage System, the Brazilian Repechage System reduces the importance of the Draw and provides a better determination of 2nd and 3rd place finishes. One negative result of the Brazilian System, however, is that it is possible for the 1st Place winner to have lost to someone else in the division earlier in the competition."
Two bronze medals preferred, simply by removing the above mentioned bronze match.
*: "true" 1st and 2nd places are obtained. Also "true" 3rd places are guaranteed if the the finalists come from each pool. Otherwise there is a risk that the 3 best players were present in the same pool resulting in the 3rd best not obtaining a bronze medal. Thus, when the two finalists come from the same pool, the situation can be handled with an additional bronze repechage round to determine the 3rd best of the strongest pool. This addition is not included in the description. However, the system is also quite satisfactory when leaving out this conditioned bronze repechage round and certainly the most fair KO system I have seen regarding medalists.

Noted that this system was applied at the olympics only in 1972 - not sure anyone are using it now. The "double lost"-systems in JudoShiai can be regarded as the double elimination variant of this system, though the exact construction of the looser pools may vary.
