I would like to set my axisTitle to something like "d<subscript>max</subscript>".
Is there a formatter (or something similar) where I can easily do this with jChart2D?
Or are there better alternatives to using HTML when trying to use sub/superscript text?

what about just using "²" or "₂". This is unicode and swing should support it. HTML content is not supported (and will not be as this would introduce a lot of code and complexity for something that can be achieved by unicode).
