Java Embedding Plugin 0.8.0, first public release

Apple has done a lot of work in the last couple of
years on its Mac OS X Java Virtual Machine,
licensed from Sun. But up until now you've had to
use Safari to see any of this. The Java Embedding
Plugin, whose first beta has just been released,
is meant to start opening up these benefits to
other web browsers.

The Java Embedding Plugin distribution includes an
updated version of Mozilla's MRJ Plugin Carbon,
which (together with the JEP) allows recent
versions of Mozilla, Firefox and Camino to use
Java 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 on Mac OS X. But in
principle any web browser could use one of the
Java Embedding Plugin's two APIs to add support
for Java 1.4.X.
