I have listed your driver in the Foomatic database at FSG OpenPrinting now http://openprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=pxljr and recommended it for the HP Color LaserJet 35xx/36xx printers. I believe there are actually 3 compatible models - 3500/3550/3600 (and their enhanced versions with "N" for having a network interface, etc) - AFAIK, the main difference seems to be printing speed. Thank you very much for changing the license to let your driver go into the Linux distributions. i have one question to the PPD file. How did you create it? Did you use Foomatic XML files or did you hand-edit an existing PPD file, for example from the HPLIP package? In the former case, please upload also the Foomatic XML files, as they are the source code of the PPD file then. In any case, mention in the documentation how you obtained the PPD file. Thank you. In the next week I will look deeper into the driver and perhaps make a Ubuntu Linux package from it. I will also list the driver in the Foomatic database and make it recommended for the Color LaserJet 35xx printers. As there are two models (3500 and 3550) please make two PPD files, one for each model. Depending on the printer's features they may be identical except the model name and auto-detection data. This makes it easier for printer setup tools to assign the correct PPD file to an auto-detected printer. Pu the PPD files also into the source tarbal instead of uploading them as separate files. This makes maintaining distro packages and keeping the driver and the correct PPD files together much easier. Hi, I have uploaded a new release on 1st Jan: http://sourceforge.net/projects/hp-pxl-jetready/ Mostly it is a license change to GPL, and also the max-quality setting didn't work correctly in the last release (sorry it was rushed out the door then); and there is a new perl script which makes it easier for testing. As usual, for full features one should use hplip; the advantage of this driver versus hplip is mostly in the two better quality settings similiar to the better two of the 3 found in the windows driver. Happy new year, and happy printing! Hin-Tak Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com |

Yes, I understand that. I might change that later. At the moment it is just about exposing the better quality modes and stimulating HPIJS to do something :-). > Did you test to use the "hp" CUPS backend and your driver and PPD? The printer works unidirectionally - i.e. the ijs driver is just a graphics filter. By "no conflict", I mean no files from the two packages have the same names; there is no need to use the hp cups backend with pxljr (nor hpijs) - the generic usb backend works. ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo! http://sourceforge.net/projects/hp-pxl-jetready/ The first two items of the FAQ: * What is this? PXLJR (http://sourceforge.net/projects/hp-pxl-jetready/) is an IJS-based driver for the HP JetReady 4.x protocol printer family (Color Laserjet 3500 and 3550) under linux and other unix-like systems. This effort is not endorsed by nor affiliated with HP. It is licensed under the terms of Aladdin Free Public License. * HPIJS/HPLIP also supports these two printers. Why are you "reinventing the wheel"? HPIJS (http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net) provides 2 printing modes: one color and one gray, corresponding to the max-compression(worst-quality) setting of the HP driver under Windows. There are two more settings for better quality in the Windows driver. PXLJR provides these two additional settings, so there are a total of 6 printing modes. Also, the max-compression gray mode of PXLJR is 1.5 to 3 times faster. One the other hand, PXLJR doesn't provide a full set of facilities like printer status report, etc. For other bells and whistles, please use HPLIP's toolbox instead. There is no conflict installing both HPIJS and PXLJR simultaneously. ___________________________________________________________ How much free photo storage do you get?
